I work with software and have never picked up a hammer in my life. I did so for a year when I renovated the first floor bathroom of my 1810 Colonial. This site shares my experience of doing everything single-handedly. Here-in are stories, tips, funnies, and thoughts on how to remodel and build a bathroom. Specifically, how to remove a cast iron tub to then frame, waterproof, and tile a custom double walk-in shower, complete with a custom floating sink and tri-tier vaulted ceiling. I hope that this site will enhance your DIY journey.
I threw this site together on a 3-hour flight to share with friends and families, so please excuse typos and possible inconsequential stuff here-in. For me, this site is reflective of my workman's diary, detailing that one crazy year when, outside of my actual job, this bathroom construction was my life. DIY is "Do it Yourself" for a reason. It is a journey of self-learning and discovery and while this site may share suggestions, it should be clear that content/information here-in are subjective, offered publicly, without reference to your specific scenario and, of course, without qualification, warranty, and guarantee. For plumbing and electrical work, I did leverage fully licensed and insured contractors, friends, who let me be their apprentices for the exercise. It is against most building code to DIY when it comes to these two topics; water and electricity in one room is dangerous so you do not want to take the risk.
